I'm hearing more and more from shops that their customers are asking to get updates by text instead of phone or email.
While they have numerous companies out there that you could pay to handle these types of requests I was informed by one of our members that you can now easily update your customers by text through your email and best of all it's free! (And you don't have to give out your personal cell number)
I did a little research. The average "open rate" of a text message is around 99% compared to email at 33% according to marketing surveys. I think this will be a tremendous opportunity for those shops who not only want to make their customers happy but could be helpful while sending out surveys for customer feedback, future events, coupons, etc. They will also have your information available to simply forward it via text to a friend who might have just had a fender bender. Simply ask who their service provider is when taking the cell number.
How to Send a Text Message (SMS) Via Email:
To send a text message via email, you must use a SMS to email gateway. Just substitute a 10-digit cell number for ‘number’ for each carrier below:
Sprint: firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
Virgin Mobile: firstname.lastname@example.org
Metro PCS: email@example.com
Boost Mobile: firstname.lastname@example.org
U.S. Cellular: email@example.com

Our next meeting will be June 7, 2016 @ 6 p.m.
39326 Highway 74
Gonzales, LA 70737-6407
We ask that each shop bring with them an example scenario that they got paid for and one that they did not not. The goal is to share our experiences and see what works and help each other out. We do not need specifics (prices, claim #'s, rates, insurance information, etc.) and we have to be careful that we do not make it seem like we are trying to price fix or anything like that.
Food and beverages will be provided. I will send out the online link soon.

David v. Goliath: Underdog Matt Parker takes on Insurance Commissioner Donelon, Hoard of Insurance Industry Donors
While the candidates for governor try to turn our eyes away from the circus in Iowa long enough to make their case of why they should be chosen to clean up the Bobby Jindal mess, there is another statewide race that is quietly flying under the radar which deserves our attention.
If ever there was a case to be made for prohibiting campaign contributions from industries and individuals the candidates would be regulating once in office, it would have be with the races for Louisiana Insurance Commissioner, Public Service Commission, and Louisiana Attorney General. An examination of contributions to candidates for those offices stands as the poster child for campaign reform.
Matt Parker is trying to change that. The Monroe native owns and operates an auto body shop and it his experience with insurance companies through his business that has led him to defy all political odds and run against incumbent Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon. http://mattparkerforlouisiana.com/
The single biggest black mark against Parker’s name is that he was an All-State football player at Neville High School in Monroe. Being an alumnus of district rival Ruston High (Magna Cum Barely, class of 1961), long a bridesmaid to the stellar football program of Neville, first under Bill Ruple and later Charles Brown, I find that to be a tough personal negative for Parker to overcome.

Caldwell, a Republican, filed Louisiana v. State Farm last September in the Louisiana 19th District Court. In December 2014, a federal panel added it to a group of lawsuits from more than a dozen states being heard by Middle District of Florida Judge Gregory Presnell to avoid the burden of repetition on the legal system and parties. The other lawsuits were filed by filed by collision repairers and trade groups, including two cases filed by Louisiana repairers.
